selecting a password for self-signed server certificate

Post by Arnold Harris »

We are trying to set up a download copy of CoreFTP Server to use on their standard 45-day trial basis. If we can get it to run properly, Core will have us as a paid customer.

One setup task not well covered in your online "Creating Domains" instruction sheets deal with the password required for a self-signed certificate.

Exactly what password must we use? The password I use to log onto the screen on our web server where the CoreFTP program will be installed? Would any password of appropriate length that I dream up for just this purpose? What specifically does your program require here?

After we register the program with you and pay the $50 purchase fee, does CoreFTP supply its own certficate with your own password?

The password for the self-signed certificate can be whatever you want. It has to be at least 5 characters.

No certificate is supplied with the license (the license is what you pay for for additional users and domains after 45 days).

If you want a trusted certificate, you can get one from several vendors, and then import it into the operating system (under the "certificates" button in the domain setup) for use with Core FTP Server.
