cannot upload jpg image

Hi everyone,
I'm a new user and I've managed to upload my .htm and .gif files, however, I can't upload my jpg image.
I can see the image in my browser and I tried uploading it in Binary mode, but it will not transfer.
Can someone please help me. I am most definitely not a computer person, so can you make it as simple as possible.
