Capability questions

Post by surfwithderf »

If anyone can answer a few capability questions it would be greatly appreciated.

1. Is CoreFTP Server going to be MS Vista capable?
2. What are the limits on number of users if say the server was running on XP Pro?
3. Is there or will there be more extensive documentation on full setup? I have a lot of PC experience, but not a whole lot on servers.

I'm looking for an FTP server software package that can handle a lot of traffic by many users. I know some of this is bandwidth restrictions, I'm just getting some info to make an educated decision.

Thanks for any help.

I will let CP answer you on MS Vista, but I don't think there is any issues.

But as for the number of users, coreftp is not limited its windows. If you are wanting to set up a serious server scrap XP and look at a server 2003 family product.

There are various IP port and connection limitations in XP, its just for home / office workstation use, not designed to run a proper server off it.

I presume by 'users' your talking about simultaneous users, not just the number of user names / passwords coreftp is storing for use?

Even at home I am running a Windows 2003 Enterprise server as my domain controller.

Forget all those XP registry 'patches' trying to allow more simultaneous connections and so forth. Its NOT designed to be used as a server period. Even in the Windows 2003 Server family there are also connection limitations, until you get to Enterprise and Datacenter. There is differences between server editions again not just registry changes. However for your application I would think 2003 Web Edition would fit perfectly. Its a cut down edition aimed primarily to run as a web site server.

Cheers,

David
