Hi,
I have never used an FTP program before, although I have published files to the web using Microsoft Publisher.
When I connect to the host server, I am unable to see any files in the right hand window of the Core FTP LE window. I am obviously doing something wrong, but I have tried lots of different variations, always with the same result.
The log of the latest attempt:

This all seems to be okay to my untrained eye. Why are there no files appearing. Our website is up and running so there are obviously files on the web host server.
Have drawn a complete blank, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Am able to connect, but don't see any files in rh window
Your remote server is defaulting you to your root directory which is set to "/". This would make me believe that you should at least be seeing folders. I would contact your host to make sure you have all the settings in the FTP program correctly written.
If you connect with Publisher, can you see any files? (I think you can set Publisher up to connect remotely...)

Thanks for the reply!
Yes, I can see files with Publisher. Also, if I use Explorer and enter the ftp address my web host gave me, I can see all the files there too.
For some reason, the way I have set up Core FTP is incorrect. And I am not sure how to fix it. I have tried multiple combinations of URL addresses and none of them will allow me to connect, except the one I am running currently and as you say, it is only allowing me into the root directory and not into the public_html folder which is where all the files for the website are stored.
Unfortunately, as discussed by other people on this forum, my web host doesn't seem to be all that interested in helping out with this sort of stuff, they just refer you to their online tutorials, which I have followed and which don't include Core FTP (even though that is their recommended program!). I have worked through the tutorials, but they tend to assume a certain level of knowledge about this sort of thing and when you are totally new to this, even the tutorials are confusing. Also, they keep stating how easy this whole process is! This only serves to fuel frustrations and make you feel like a total idiot! LOL!

Okay, I tried a different approach and seemed to get a bit further. Core FTP was trying to retrieve the list of files and then got booted. Any ideas?

Ta.
For me, not really...for CP, perhaps.
Try the following method:
1.) After connection, type in /public_html/ in your remote path, and press enter, see if anything happens.
2.) If it does, go into your site's advanced settings in your Site Manager window, and go to the "Directories" section (I think, I am at a computer that doesn't have CoreFTP installed on it atm), and make sure "remote" is set to /public_html/ or some variation. You might need to check "absolute" or it might not work that way.
Try it and see, can't hurt, right?

Yup, you are right, it can't hurt!
Okay, well I did what you said and we seemed to get into some sort of loop. Just for the heck of it, I tried to transfer a file across, even though there was still nothing in the right hand window. The program recognised that I was trying to transfer a file and let me know that the transfer had failed. So at least that part of the program is working properly. Obviously, if I can just get my host server to download the files in the public_html folder, everything else will fall into place.

When it looked like we weren't getting anywhere, I disconnected.
I have a d-link router and a broadband connection and am running a hardware and software firewall, would that have anything to do with all this?
Thanks for your help.
This was the response on the d-link site:
Make sure your FTP client software is set to passive. For security reasons the D-Link router does not deal with an active FTP client. An active FTP client can allow a hacker masquerading as an FTP server to gain access to your computer. Please contact your FTP client software manufacturer to determine how to configure the client for passive rather than active.
So I set the Core FTP site manager to Passive and this is the log:
