Question about coreftp usage in general

Just trying to understand how this works, so am I correct in thinking that swapping files is done directly between my computer and someone else's computer, such as a friend?

By this I mean that the files aren't uploaded to a web site and then downloaded by the other party, but are swapped by direct communication between my and my friend's computer by the usage of core ftp

?

This won't download for some reason. I tried another site to download this file and it noted that it was suitable of win98, ME, NT and 2000, but it didn't mention winXP, which I have. Do you have other recommendations for XP users?
