Vista - Unspecified Error

Post by hiballer »

I've been using the latest version of CoreFTP and after about a couple of weeks, I will select a site to connect to and when I try to "drill down" in the directory structure on the selected site, I begin to get this error "Unspecified Error" and, when I clear it off, files start to be moved from whatever directory is present in the left panel to whatever directory is present in the right panel. I cannot stop this movement short of killing the task with Task Manager.

Every command click with the mouse is ignored and the program immediately goes into a "program is not responding" failure. Strangely enough, when I simply re-install the latest version on top of itself, the error will go away for around another week or so.

I use CoreFTP quite a bit to maintain my web site, but whenever this happens I have to do some housekeeping to clear off the files transferred in error.

Is there any solution to this? I use Vista Home Premium with all SPs and updates.

Unspecfied error

Post by tomh »

I get a similiar problem when hi-lighting files on the remote side. This happens regardless of client or host OS (windows 7/xp/server etc.) so we reverted to CoreFTP 2.1 (1649) and have not seen the problem once.

CoreFTP LE 2.1 (1649) and earlier do not exhibit this behavior, but all 2.2 builds have the issue. Sometimes you just get the error message, sometimes CoreFTP hangs, other times CoreFTP starts downloading things on it's own. In most cases you must end task and try again, however if you hi-light the problem file or folder you will get into the same mess all over again.

It does not seem to be related to the actual file content because you can create a new file with a different name but the same contents and the error will not occur on that file. Most of these files have been simple text files in our case.

It would seem as if there is something in the attributes of the file that cause the problem. Some of our windows network permissions can get convoluted and I suspect that it is related to something that CoreFTP does while trying to interpret those permissions. On the other hand I have tried changing permissions and removing everything but Everyone (Full Control) and still see the issue. In one case I had a folder with a single problem file in it. I deleted the file but hi-lighting the empty folder would cause an "Unspecified Error" to pop up. It was not until I copied another non-problem file into the folder that I could hi-light that folder without an error.

Keeping an eye on this... Any additional information you can provide will be appreciated (especially session logs when seeing the problem).

The file attributes may have something to do with this, as the issue appears to happen only on certain directories and files.

It looks to be an issue with SYST Windows_NT servers.

Build 1684 and greater will have a fix for this.

Vista - Unspecified Error

Post by had »

I just upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 built 1683 and I'm getting this error as soon as the files are starting to show on the server since right after the installation, and I can't get rid of it, it doesn't allow me to do anything else, I'm forced to terminate CoreFTP through the Task Manager, it happens with one particular site, I have like 3 more that work great... any thoughts?

In a addition to being unable to sort, there is a specific file that when I click get this same error. I can click on other files on the remote server just fine.

I am using Windows 7 Pro 32 bit.

Edit: I read the thread in greater detail. It looks like this was already mentioned - sorry for the duplicate info.
In the mean time, I downloaded the last build of version 2.1 and no longer have this issue.

To anybody following this thread and waiting for a fix:
The current build is 1687 and it no longer has this issue.

Thanks, Core FTP team.
