Install of CoreFTP breaks ftp downloads in IE

Post by martyj »

Hi,
I am a systems administrator for a University in Missouri. We've been using WS_FTP for years now, and without any updates, I thought I'd try to move our installation over to your product.

I'm having an issue after the installation of all CoreFTP builds that to only happens when clicking an FTP hyperlink in IE 6 sp1 (fully patched):

To recreate the problem, go here:
http://www.sausage.com/professional/download.html

and then click the FULL DOWNLOAD link of Hot Dog 7, the url behind the hyperlink is:

ftp://ftp.sausage.com/pub/hotdog/hotdog ... nstall.exe

clicking the link freezez IE and sends CPU utilization to 100%

After a bit of troubleshooting, I've narrowed it down to your app as the culprit. And ONLY when the hyperlink references an ftp site for file download. Any ideas?

Clients are all running Win2k sp3 fully patched along with IE6 sp1 patched.

Thanks,
Marty

Fixed it nicely. Well done.

Two things, and perhaps they are just annoyances, but:

1. CoreFTP has taken over all ftp downloads from the browser. The installer should notify the user that CoreFTP is taking away FTP downloads from the browser, or give the user the option to let the browser continue to handle them.

2. Once it takes over the ftp downloads from the browser, it appears to use C:\ as it's default save location. If you are going to take them over, request from the user a default save directory or provide a "save as" dialog box so the user knows where coreftp has put the downloaded file. I had to search for it because it didn't give me the destination option (like browsers do...)

Thanks again.
