CoreFTP crashing again on large linux directories

Post by Chris Spagnoli »

This problem just appeared in the latest version of CoreFTP lite (build 1391). It was working in the previous version I was using (1276), but was broken in a similar way in the version before that (1260) - (fixed apparently as a result of my reporting it actually, in this thread - http://www.coreftp.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=103 ;)). Note that it is working fine in the currently downloadable 1.3a (build 1334). My long-winded point being - this broke recently.

Problem description:
On the remote machine, the "Threads" directory has just over 12,158 files.
In CoreFTP, I click on directory name, its says in bottom bar - "Threads -- (208,896 bytes) -- 10/22/04 08:01".
I double click on directory name, it says "Loading xxx", where xxx counts up to 448,800. At this point CoreFTP terminates (with the windows message "Core FTP App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience), every time (on multiple PCs). Note that in 1334, the "Loading" count goes up to 782,288, then it goes into "Parsing xxx of 12,300", then displays the remote directory successfully.

PC was windows XP, with latest service pack/updates.
Linux system was "GNU bash, version 2.05b.0(1)-release (i386-redhat-linux-gnu)"

Any further information which I can provide to assist, just ask.

The ANSI version works.

Thank you for the rapid solution!

I've seen this with Solaris systems as well. When is 1.3c due for release?

similar Pro problem

Post by webrador_retriever »

Not sure if 'crashing' is the right word for what's happening to me. I've been going through my site cleaning out old/extra files and I really like using CoreFTP Pro to do it as opposed to shell. My server is BSD Unix and what will happen is that CoreFTP Pro just 'disappears' when I select multiple files. This doesn't happen all the time, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. BTW I use OpenSSL SFTP if that makes a difference.

Sorry if this issue has been addressed elsewhere on the forums and feel free to move it to the right place.

aha!

I think I've narrowed down when this 'disappearing' problem happens. It may be when ctrl-clicking multiple files, when I get too many selected. Any thoughts?

Thanks CP.

Hi, I'm getting the same problem - but I'm a bit new to FTP. What is the ANSI version? Will it still be OK and easy to use for .htm pages and graphics etc...?
Thanks in advance...

Just downloaded 1.3c dev build ansi (1410.04 on Help>About) and my big images directory loads ok now thanks...
Oh, but I've ended up with a "Core FTP Lite" AND a "Core FTP Lite." in my Programs>Core FTP - can I ditch one?
Cheers,
