download from unix server

When I download a text file from my unix server to my workstation, I got a long string of text in one line. None of the CR/LF is displayed properly. It looks like download in Binary mode. I click the ASCII button before downloading and it does not have any effect. Does anybody has a workaround on this?

Was there ever an answer to the problem of ASCII tranfers coming down looking like binary with no CR's and extra characters? I've checked extensions and made ASCII the default mode and I am still have the problem.
