Deleting folders

When I try to delete a folder that contains subfolders, all files in the original folder and all the subfolders are deleted. However, the original folder and the subfolders themselves remain undeleted, even though all of their files have been deleted.

Is there any way of deleting a high-level folder (containing several sub-folders and files) completely in one go?
