How do we address user-2-user?

Hello,
VERY new user here.
I would like to be able to let my friend get files directly from my PC.
Am a bit frightened of Peer2peer after terrible tales....

Is this similar but personal? 1-2-1?

Do you need a fixed IP address? I am on ADSL but not fixed.
What would my friend log in to??

Also - I can't alter quite a few options in my latest Lite version - I've lost a couple of downloads

and there is no log available and the option to set it is grey.

And it is VERY slow. 12bits p.s. my ADSL is 512/256
